San Benedetto del Tronto (AP), 22 July 2023 – Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, the iconic sailing tour of Italy, is preparing to stop in San Benedetto. The event, imagined by Difesa Servizi to enhance Marina Militare brand and promote the beauties of the Italian territory through sailing, is organized in collaboration with SSI Sports & Events and will stop in San Benedetto between 23 and 25 July.
The stage of San Benedetto will prove to be fundamental for defining the balance of the ranking on the eve of the last stages of the Tour: after the stage in the so called "Riviera delle Palme", in fact, the crews will head for Portoroz, in Slovenia, the only foreign appointment of this edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, to then meet in Venice for the grand finale on the last weekend of July.
The Regatta Village, which in San Benedetto will be located in the very central location of Rotonda Giorgini, is already arriving from Vieste, where the awards ceremony for the best in the inshore classes (Wing Foil and Waszp) was held yesterday evening and where at 12.00 today the crews of the Beneteau Figaro 3 boats crossed the starting line and began to cover the 120 miles that separate them from San Benedetto.
The stage in Vieste, which has just ended, proved to be one of the most dynamic and competitive in sporting terms. In the offshore fleet, engaged in the route between Taranto and the Pearl of the Gargano, the team of Aeronautica Militare with Giancarlo Simeoli and Giovanni Bannetta on board prevailed: although not first in real time, the crew received compensation on the journey time for having done their utmost to assist a boat in difficulty at sea. The bonus established by the Jury allowed the Air Force to put the seal on the Taranto-Vieste stage. In real time, on the other hand, the arrival was exciting and at the photo finish between Acone Associati and Guardia Di Finanza, second and third respectively: the duel, which began right from the first edges when the crews had chosen to line up along the coast while the rest of the fleet had gone further out to sea, was resolved only at the finish line, crossed by Acone Associati (on board Augelli-Gonzalez Sanchez) 7 seconds before Guardia di Finanza (Baldassari-Vigna).
“A long race but the maneuvers were almost match racing - commented Marco Augelli of Acone Associati. continuing: - We managed to extend the margin on the Guardia di Finanza immediately after the start, but near Gallipoli we lost all the advantage having gone too close to the coast. In the ascent from Santa Maria di Leuca to Brindisi and then to Vieste, our revenge started, but always in tandem with the Guardia di Finanza. An intense duel in which we squeezed each other to the max, winning like this has a special flavor. Now we will try to defend the pink jersey up to Venice, but we still have many miles ahead".
Also thanks to the results of the Waszp and Wing Foil regattas held in Vieste, all governed by athletes bearing the colors of Acone Associati, it is precisely the team representing the leading company in Italy and Europe in outdoor advertising that takes control of the general classification of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour after 5 stages, with 21 points in total. The team of the Guardia di Finanza (49 pt. total) and the Aeronautica Militare (53 pt.) follow in second place.
While the offshore fleet sails towards San Benedetto, the Waszp and Wing Foil athletes prepare to take to the water, tomorrow 22 July, for an exciting new series of regattas.
Also on the occasion of the Vieste-San Benedetto stage, the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2023 promoted “Scopri dove ti Porto” project by ENIT, the National Tourism Company and divided into seventeen itineraries inspired by historical routes. The route of this stage, at the behest of the Organizing Committee, has in fact overlapped for some stretches with the Rotta dei Trabocchi, an itinerary to be discovered between Termoli and San Benedetto.
