Marco Augelli: “The Tour? An opportunity for self-entrepreneurial sailors”

Milan - Among the first entries of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour there is Marco Augelli, someone who knows really well how to sail around Italy. Born in 1972 in Trieste, sailor since 1982, an Olympic campaign in Star (2008-2012), already winner of a Rolex Middle Sea Race and various national and international titles, Augelli took part to different editions of the original version (2001-2006). Podium finisher in two occasions, Augelli, who is also the owner of the Orange Sail, is now impatient to return to circumnavigating Italy supported by SiMedia, a partner that is with him from several seasons.

Q: You have begun your preparation for the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2023: what do you expect from this event?
MA: A lot of competitive races and a series of new opportunities to give visibility to SiMedia, which has been by my side for several seasons now: the route is very fascinating and competitive but what matters most is the fact of being able to bring my sponsor's logo along the Italian coasts and in each stage location. To be honest, I was looking for an event like this and when I learned about the programs of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, I contacted the Organizing Committee without delay to get the information necessary to evaluate the registration. If you approached an event like this with the right spirit and with the right planning, it can helps each sailor to transform himself into a sort of entrepreneur and to be able to combine business with competitive activity. Sure, it takes a different resourcefulness than just being on board, but the fulfillment when you manage to put all the pieces together and be on the starting line is absolutely different: you realize you're working for yourself.

Q: So you took your decision in a very quick way...
MA: I immediately understood that the ingredients that made the historical editions great are still present, indeed an excellent job of modernizing the fornat has been done, also opening up to different classes such as wingfoil and Waszp in order to guarantee a more and immersive complete experience.

Q: The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is a double-handed race: do you already know who your adventure partner will be?
MA: I will race together with Francisco “Pancho” Gonzales, a Spanish sailor who has been sailing with me as a trimmer for some seasons: he too is enthusiastic about taking part in an event that will allow him to discover the Italian coasts and see some of the beauties of our country from very close.
